hi okay so. NEW YORK! it was awesome.

i left really early saturday morning and the flight sucked. never flying american airlines again because their seats were so small! i felt -too tall- for them, and im like, below average height for an american. what the heck.
got in and lizz met me!! lizz!! you guys. remember her? remember this? remember when my whole life fell apart many moons ago and the one person i had been conditioned to not trust completely saved me? yeah. her. so we went back to her place and i de-planed myself and we went with jk to eat at lokal and then had milkshakes at williamsburger.
we were all pretty zonked after that, so we went to lizz's to power-nap ... which resulted in all of us sort of waking up at 1am ... and deciding to go out anyways! so lizz and i went to don hills for some rated x party which really ultimately resulted in a pretty embarrasing photo on a popular "party photo" website. woops! (i mean, its not that bad, im going "buhh?" and lizz looks like a 6 year old a little bit. so.)
also there was a "hot body" contest. reactions here. totally saw some strung out new-wavers fruit bowl. barf.
sunday, we went to brunch with jk at westville. it was a little lack-luster, but not anything worse than what id make at home. i guess that was sort of the problem too, it wasnt anything better than what id make at home either. we went to urban and then went back to lizz's and i prettied myself to go see the toasters, new york ska jazz ensemble, dave hillyard and the rocksteady seven, westbound train, hub city stompers, and special guest dj agent j from the slackers. it was totally weird being at a ska show where i didnt know anybody except band members. haha.
at one point there was a dude who was like, saving my spot/protecting me from the jackass kids in the pit. we started talking and i mentioned that i used to live in chicago and he was like, "oh do you know maud from jump up?" aka maud_amanda . my first reaction was, of course, "god dammit maud!". fucking small ass world.
i got really drunk at the after party. the dj was playing sleater kinney and i gave him guff and made him play bikini kill. so then i drunkenly sang 'rebel girl' in this mostly-empty-except-for-members-of-ska-bands bar. AWESOME JOB, ALITHEA.
when i got back to lizz's (at like, 430am), there was crying and some heart-to-heart and man, i am so fucking thankful for lizz.
monday we ate at red bamboo (best pic) and took some pictures and then went and got tattoos! myles karr @ saved did them and he was awesome. we took the train up to 72nd and saw MARK who i used to work with at urban! best dude! we also ate at s'mac with kristen and jk and then had deserts at momofuku milk bar.
instead of going out on my last night in nyc, we stayed in and i got my ass handed to me playing scene it. fuck that game forever.
then i flew home and read 400 pages of a piece of cake by cupcake brown which im totally into because, well, ive spent 20+ years trying to understand addiction without experiencing it first hand and this book really strikes that chord with me.

anyways. that was my trip. im glad to be home, and im glad to have a night to myself (finally!) tonight to decompress from it. im done with traveling for a while i think.

so im supposed to leave for the airport in a half hour, but im so stressed because everything is falling apart

i have a working phone, but for some reason, it wont actually activate under my account.
i only got HALF a paycheck (?! some sort of payroll error that will -eventually- be cleared up).
at some point this evening im supposed to meet up with chris, but of course, firm plans have not been made. i am thinking there is a 10% chance this will actually happen despite me putting in 150% effort.
i dont have boots and two of my buttons on my heavy coat have fallen off. :(
this is all agrivated by the fact that i do not have a phone -and- im going to be flying all day-ish.

so i guess this is what im going to do:

when asa picks me up, im going to use his phone to call sprint and try to get my phone to work.
i can sew the buttons on my coat on the flight...? maybe?
my work will hopefully take care of the paycheck thing. (ugh.)
if my phone doesnt get fixed, i can go to the sprint store on la salle after i get in to midway and hopefully they can help.

today i am so, so proud to be an american. when they called it, i cried and i hugged aiko. we watched his acceptance speech and then moved into the streets, which became the most organic, positive, celebratory rally i could ever imagine. we marched down pike, to first where we met with the stranger election party, then down first to madison, up to third, and then back up pike. at pike and broadway we celebrated with champagne, cupcakes, random beers, cheers, the national anthem, and friends.

and then nick proposed to aiko, she said yes, and everything seemed right in the world.

i had my official interview for the free people job today. it went well! i hope i hear from them soon.

new meme. this is a full on status update so that things seem more full circle.

1. First Name: alithea

2. Age: almost 23 and a half.

3. Location: seattle, washington. the ravenna neighborhood.

4. Occupation: men's manager for the university urban outfitters, store #111 (uno uno uno!)

5. Partner?: none. kevin and i broke up a month and a half or two ago. ive been half-heartedly dating around since. being single is kind of great at the mo.

6. Kids: nope.

7. Brothers/Sisters: sister, serena, 17 years old, aka covermewithrain.

8. Pets: one albino hedgehog named porkchop.

9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:

1.) work. this consumes the vast majority of my time.
2.) personal life stuff. i am hesitant to give specifics, just because ... well ... im just guarded that way now adays. but things are going well and there is potential for so much awesome.
3.) im moving in with aiko in september.
4.) i have to start taking classes sometime in the next year because my americorps scholarship is going to expired.

... my life is so boring.

10) Where and for what did you go to school for?: i dropped out of art school in 2003. :D

11) Parents?: my mom lives in olympia with her boyfriend scott and my sister. she works one or two days a week doing elder care but mostly survives on the child support she gets from my step dad. my step dad and his wife had a baby last week. he does construction/longshoreman work. he is a pretty good guy. my dad lives in elma with his parents. he has hepititas c and a lot of substance abuse problems. my step dad is pretty much the only responsible parent ive ever had.

12) Who are some of your closest friends?: aiko, sage and karen. karen knows just about every detail of my life because i see her most days of the week. aiko and i have gotten closer over the last few months, but we've been friends pretty much since ive moved here. sage and i's friendship is not at the best place its ever been, but its not at the worst either. ive known her my whole life, so regardless of current goings-ons, we will always be friends. there are a few people that ive recently become closer with, such as asa and nick, and friends who i can go months without talking to and still start where we left off when we do talk. even with all the crappiness of the last year, on and off, ive never felt alone.

i just stumbled on this set of photos ashleigh took at soul night last month. i have absolutely -zero- memory of any of them, especially all the ones of me and jess dancing. it makes sense, considering i drank FIVE SIDECARS in less than an hour.

i totally drunk cried to kevin, while holding a hot dog, and then threw the hot dog on the ground, yelling something about it being a symbol of my affection. I KNOW, RIGHT?
